The ball joint forms the pivoting connection in the carburettor throttle linkage, letting the servo pull the throttle arm through its arc without binding as the engine moves on its mounts. A worn or loose ball joint puts slop into the throttle, which shows up as an inconsistent idle, a throttle that does not return cleanly, or a brake that starts to bite before the throttle is fully
